Today, like any potential customer might, I decided to go and take a look at the Blackberry Playbook and the Motorola Xoom. I went to two stores, a Telus mobility store and Best Buy.
Here’s a summary of the experience:
At Telus, the Xoom did not turn on. I got the Playbook to open on the homepage. I opened the calendar application. I didn’t know how to get back out*
At Best Buy, the Xoom did work and I browsed the web a bit. Eventually it crashed. The Playbook already had the calculator app open. I still can’t figure out how to get exit an app on the Playbook.
I did purchase a Magic Trackpad.
* This is why I think the home button on the iPad is essential: Pressing it is probably the first natural instinct people have when trying to quit an app, even if they’re not sure what the home button actually does.
